ABOUT

Giving textiles a second life — the art of visible mending.

Sashiko is a traditional Japanese technique for visibly mending or decorating textiles using simple hand-sewing. Rooted in both practicality and beauty, Sashiko embraces imperfection and sustainability. Rather than discarding worn or damaged items, we repair them — turning flaws into features and preserving what we value. This meditative craft

promotes mindfulness, creativity, and care for the things we use every day.

PROGRAM

In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of Sashiko, using a basic running stitch to repair or decorate a textile item of their choice. Alongside practical instruction, the session offers insight into the history, philosophy, and visual language of this centuries-old Japanese technique. The experience is welcoming to all levels and encourages thoughtful connection with materials.

The workshop is led by Madeleine, a dedicated handcraft teacher who studied Sashiko with a Japanese textile artist and now shares her practice through workshops in France and Switzerland. Instruction is offered in German, English, and French, and group size is limited to ensure individual guidance.
